Having two sister-in-laws (April & Katie) that are avid runners and "racers" I'm always hearing, "you should do a race Robin...they're lots of fun." I've always been intrigued and thought it "sounded" fun, but I'm certainly not one to dive into a new hobby on my own. Marc announced a few months ago he's going to run a half-marathon in October and I thought that sounded neat, but again, I just felt like I needed a partner. Well, my new friend Kibbie just happened to mention in an email that she recently ran a 5k....looks like the Lord sent me a partner! ha! Of course I originally wanted to run the half-marathon (13.1 miles), but Kibbie said she'd rather find a 5k (3.1 miles) that's on the same or near the same day as the 13.1. After two weeks of training, I think she's right! :) We haven't decided on a race though...there is a race the same day as Marc's and one the following weekend. The problem is baby Ashlin should be entering the world at that same time (and you know how predictable babies are!!) so there are no definite plans as of yet. But at least I have a goal of end of Oct/beg of Nov and that's just what I needed to get my rear in gear! Kibbie has been in town this week so we've been able to run together this week....and by run together I don't mean that literally. What I really mean is Kibbie runs and I sluggishly drag myself across the asphalt whilst moaning and wheezing. If you come to support me on race day I will understand if you feel the need to wear a paper bag over your head to prevent anyone from recognizing you....haha. Hopefully I'll have improved by then, but we'll see. :) Kibbie is going home next week and won't be back until she's a "Mrs."....no partner = no accountability = it will be harder for me to motivate myself to pound the pavement. Thankfully my lovely husband bought me an iPod Christmas '06 and Katie has given me several great sources for podcasts so maybe that will be enough motivation. :)
Here we are hitting the trail in town earlier this week...

Thank you sooo much for running with me this week! 25 minutes today - woop woop, great job!!!!!
What a great looking team! I never wear a paper bag, maybe just a big hat, and not quite so loud cheering. Just kidding, you will do great!
Do you take Raegen for every practice? Will he be in the actual race? Inquiring minds want to know!
Yes, Raegen gets the royal treatment...what else do you expect for the "little king"? On the day this photo was taken, however, his daddy was in town and swung by to pick him up. Had he not done so, Kibbie would have had to push me and Raegen back up the hill because I just don't think I could have! :)
