Classy Cake - Course 2 Graduation

Friday we had our final course 2 cake class.
We learned the basketweave and rope border techniques.
M's cake

A's cake

My cake!

Friday was also Grandpa's birthday and I had been commissioned to bake and ice a
German Chocolate cake, but I was all caked out! :)
Instead, I sent my finale cake for him and Mawmaw to enjoy.
The three of us caught on quickly to the basketweave and rope border technique.
Thankfully it's a technique that looks impressive even from a beginner! :)
I'm anxious to try another basketweave and improve my technique.

Wilton Cake Course2 Wk2

This week at cake class we worked with royal icing and colorflow. The birds were made with colorflow and were my first attempt. I am not happy with how they turned out so I'll be practicing a few more to use for my final cake.

We used the royal icing {it's VERY stiff} to make flowers and leaves. The whole class was a fan of the leaf and many of us would like to make a "leaf" cake. Can you say "easy"??

Our class has all the same people from course1 so we have a lot of fun in there. I do believe Ms. Sheila thinks we're ca-razy. Just one more week and we'll be done! We're going to take the month of June off and pick up course3 in July.

I would like to thank...

the innumerable amount of calories I have enjoyed endured over the past four weeks. For without you, crisco and powdered sugar, I could never have graduated from Course1 cake school!
~~
And a big round of applause to Amber too...
I would have never taken the class by myself...so thanks a mil!
Flowers & Confetti... my "final" cake...

The rest of the class... those that look better than mine

Our graduation!

Whoops!
Can you believe I still passed?
Course2 starts Monday!
~~
As a side...this weather really STINKS for making icing. Humidity is terrible for this stuff...my cake has yet to ice over.

Clownin' Around

Today is Tuesday...that means CAKE CLASS! Yay! The hardest thing was NOT eating the cake before it made it to class with me. No joke.
We worked on roses...the base again and the center.
That's it, just two steps.
TWO VERY DIFFICULT STEPS.
But then myself and a few others decided to move on. This was the result...

that is AFTER it was destroyed by an Ibarra finger.
Actually, she made it look better.
I think I already know what this weeks homework is.
~~
The funnest thing we made today?
CLOWNS!
Why?
Because they're stinkin' EASY!

Amber and I had a great time in class today...her laughter is infectious. Her first clown creation was a contortionist {I'll spare you the picture, but it was funny as all get out...I mean tears streaming from your eyes funny}.
~~
I can hardly wait to tear into this bad boy, but it will have to wait...we have our first puppy obedience class tonight.

Did somebody say cake?

I think I mentioned that Amber and I are taking a cake decorating class. Our first class was last week and our homework was to bake a cake and ice it. During our first class the instructor gave us a few tips on how to prepare a better cake...seems it doesn't apply to chocolate cake...

This is my second cake after I iced it. Not bad. In fact, after coming close to a colossal cake breakdown, I was impressed with myself.

Here we are in class. Glad Amber didn't get a closeup of those hearts because trust me, objects are not as good as they appear!

Amber preparing her pattern transfer...

I know what you're thinking, "could you please put on a hair net?"

The finished product!

We had big plans for a birthday dinner at Olive Garden, but decided it could wait until the weekend. Instead we dined at my favorite catfish buffet.

Big Taco joined us too!

I even let Raegen have some icecream...

And he got to ride the pelican...what's a catfish house without a ride-on pelican??
Thankfully he didn't cry when it started moving...I think we're growing up.

Afterwards we came home and enjoyed my self-made birthday cake and watched Idol. Thank you to all who wished me birthday blessings. I had a fantastic birthday. I don't think it gets better than a plate of no-bakes {have I ever told you my bestie makes THE BEST no-bakes!!}, cards/texts/and phone calls from fam and friends {did I mention my dad called and had his students yell "Happy Birthday!" haha}, a few gift cards to HobLob {in fact, one card said "To: the Addict, From: the Dealers" ha}, and dinner with family.
Oh! And of course that beverage dispenser my parents got me. ;) ;)

Sugar and Spice or Snakes and Snails?

Poll has closed. It's a BOY!!!

Take the poll located on the right side of the screen. Will we be having another baby boy or a baby girl? What do you think?

If it's any help, I haven't had any dreams {like I did with Raegen, dreaming I was having a boy} and I just don't have that "feeling" with this baby. I did have severe morning sickness that lasted through week 15, quite unlike my mild morning sickness that ended at week 12 with Raegen. That info may help or confuse you more! I'm anxious to see what everyone else thinks we're having.

Is baby #3 a boy or a girl?
